The 2020 Princeton Young Jumper Championships
have been Canceled by the State Agricultural Board
have been Canceled by the State Agricultural Board
The New Jersey State Agriculture Development Committee following the recommendation of Montgomery Twp., has decided not to grant Hunter Farms permission to run Princeton Show Jumping's 4 week Fall horse show series September 16 - October 11, 2020 in Montgomery Twp./Skillman, NJ. This is not related to Covid-19. It is because Montgomery Township believes horse shows are not agriculture.
In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, with record cancellations of horse shows state and nationwide, Hunter Farms and Princeton Show Jumping's horse shows have been providing the opportunity for equestrian sport and business to continue with top shows at the region's best show facility. Farm owners, horse breeders, trainers, instructors, grooms, blacksmiths, equine veterinarians, feed suppliers, hay farmers, and equine supply dealers all depend on these competitions to support their businesses and provide for their families. Based on the pandemic's economic realities and its effect on New Jersey's Agriculture, this is the worst possible time not approve these competitions at Hunter Farms in Skillman.
It would be wonderful if you will show your support for Hunter Farms and Princeton Show Jumping by calling, letter writing, posting on social media respectfully expressing what the Horse Shows at Hunter Farms North mean to you personally and/or to your business.
We ask that you call and email Secretary Fischer (Please copy Governor Phil Murphy, Mayor of Montgomery Township Sadaf Jaffer and The Montgomery Twp. Committee, and Princeton Show Jumping.)

4 Year-Old PRINCETON YOUNG JUMPER Futurity Rules and Regulations:
Open to all 4 year-old horses Nominated to The 4 Year-Old Futurity that are age verified by the USEF.
Stalls are not required for 4 year olds.
Microchips will be scanned prior to showing each day at management’s discretion.
If the horse competing proves NOT to be the PYJ horse entered for that entry number, a fine of $500 will be charged to the owner, the horse will be disqualified from the Championships and forfeit any prize money, trophies, ribbons and points with no refund of any show or class fees.
$4,000 prize money will be awarded to the top 8 horses based on combined results of both classes.
COURSES: The 4 year-old courses will be made as inviting as possible for green horses with limited or no experience in a show ring. Very simple tracks will be used with hunter-type lines and jumper-type fences. Ground Lines are acceptable. The course will be designed to aid the horses in showing their natural talent in the very early stages of their training. The Judging Panel will consider the potential of these young horses for a future in the jumper/grand prix sport. A rail down or refusal will not automatically eliminate a horse from placing well in the competition if, in the judges’ opinions, the fault occurred due to rider error or a “green” mistake. Fence Heights will be .90m/.95m in Round 1 and 1.00m in the Final Round.
ROUND 1: Each horse will perform an individual 2-minute “freestyle” flat phase with trot and canter circles in each direction and demonstrating lengthening and shortening of stride. The horse will remain in the ring and upon the sound of the tone, will jump a course of fences with simple distances. A trot fence may be included in this round. Fences in Round 1 will not exceed 3’ in height and 3’6” in width, giving the judges and course designers the opportunity to evaluate the quality and experience of the horses at each particular event. Horses may be shown in running or standing martingales. Draw reins are not allowed.
ROUND 2: All horses will return the following day to be shown over a course of fences up to 3’3” in height and 3’6” in width. Simple double combinations may be included. At the Course Designer and Judge’s discretion options may be included at a maximum of 2 fences. These options may not exceed 3’9” in height and will allow riders to show their horses to their own best advantage. Judges will not reward or penalize solely on the basis of which option is chosen. Horses may be shown in running or standing martingales. Draw reins are not allowed.
